During wintry seasons of the soul we’re like a butterfly at the chrysalis stage, sitting with unmet longings and desires to taste joy and freedom. Spring arrives and still we linger, knowing that transformation is rarely wrought without a struggle. There’s a price to pay to move ahead and cope with change.
Just like a fragile butterfly, safely cocooned in our comfort zone, we’re scared to stretch out our wings, although we know it is a necessary part of our growth in faith and an essential component for rising strong when we feel weak. Freedom beckons but we still have to do our part.
Questions abound: What if it hurts? What if the pain is more than we can bear? What if we’re not quite ready to spread our wings and fly? What then? Anxious thoughts circle like angry birds around our head, until we turn to the One who holds all of our days in His capable hands.
God leans in close to soothe our fretful hearts, whispers reassurance of His love and ability to sustain us through all things. We don’t have to be afraid. We don’t have to feel like we won’t make it. We have all the resources we need at our fingertips, if only we will trust in God and cooperate with Him to help birth the new and the next in our lives.
“If the Son gives you freedom, you are free!” ~ John 8:36 (CEV)
Trust and Transformation – prayer whisper
βTrust Me. Trust Me to do a complete work in your life. You will break out of the cocoon you are in. You will be set free to be a beautiful butterfly, flying with joyful abandon and purpose as you spread the fragrance of Christ to others.
“There is a time and season for growth and potential and a time for resting close to Me. Allow Holy Spirit to do a deep work in you. Transformation doesn’t happen overnight. Lasting change takes time.
Do not resist My work in you, even when it may feel uncomfortable. I am breaking off the old flesh skin you are accustomed to wearing and dressing you in a robe of righteousness. Dust and ashes do not fit you as a child of God.”
“You were born to reflect My glory. Be ready to shed layers of the familiar in order to embrace the new thing I am doing in your life.
Though you feel exposed, raw and vulnerable, in reality the mantle of My love and grace is a covering for you, always. Learn to match your steps to mine, to move to the rhythm of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.”
“You are beautiful in My sight. I already see you as transformed, redeemed, restored, healed and renewed in Me. My life becomes absorbed in your life so that you can radiate My glorious Presence to others.β
“And we all, with unveiled face, continually seeing as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are progressively being transformed into His image from [one degree of] glory to [even more] glory, which comes from the Lord, [who is] the Spirit.” ~ 2 Corinthians 3:18 (AMP)
Dear Joy, These words are touching me so deeply today, as butterflies have been such a beautiful object lesson from the Lord to me. And to think of the ways that He is using this present season to bring about more of His transformation is such an encouragement. This resonates so much in my heart: “You were born to reflect My glory. Be ready to shed layers of the familiar in order to embrace the new thing I am doing in your life.” He continues to ask me to let Him uncover those old layers here also. What a Grace-filled God we serve! May you feel His spring-time blessing over you today my friend! Hugs and love to you! xoxo

Dear Bettie, it’s lovely how God speaks to so many of us through the beauty of butterflies, and the way they symbolise freedom in our lives. Their transformative experience can mirror ours as we learn to leave our comfort zone behind, stretch faith wings and grow more fully into Christ-likeness. When God wants to do a new thing it can jolt us a bit at first before we decide to embrace it. But the marvel is that He is the One leading us into what we might initially have feared. Like blogging and sharing our words in a public sphere! Thank you for your sweet blessing, my friend! Renewal is close at hand as we rest in Him. Blessings, love and hugs! xoxo

This is beautiful, Joy! As you say, God offers us freedom but we have to make the choice to step into it. Sometimes that can feel like a big risk but it is always worth it!

Hi Lesley, I’m so pleased it spoke to you! Yes, we do have choices to make and steps to take. That’s the beauty and battle of having free will, isn’t it? It can “feel like a big risk” but we will discover our courage and confidence growing stronger as we make a leap of faith! So blessed to see you here, my friend. ππ

As you know, I love butterflies and God has used them to give such special meaning to my heart. Yes, transformation takes time and is not easy. It can hurt. A lot. This promise especially moves me – “Trust Me. Trust Me to do a complete work in your life. You will break out of the cocoon you are in. You will be set free to be a beautiful butterfly, flying with joyful abandon and purpose as you spread the fragrance of Christ to others.” He is so tender and loving towards us, isn’t He? Thank you for this encouragement, Joy! Love and hugs to you!

Oh yes, I do! They’re so special, aren’t they? You’re right to say that there’s a degree of pain to be expected when we are being transformed. It really can hurt a lot. And we can draw back because we fear more trouble to come. Yet God continues to ask us to trust Him with this, and the next, and so on. I look forward to the day when fear is forgotten, the pain is put behind us and we truly are freed to fly with joy! Though even here, even now, we can taste a little of what it feels like, thanks to God’s grace and loving kindness. Blessings, love and hugs to you too, my friend! xo π

Dear Gayl, I love to see your smiling face! It’s a joy to have you here again, my friend. Sorry I’ve been a bit of a stranger myself. Too much to do and too little energy, sad to say. And it’s good to hear these words have encouraged your heart. I long for the transformation to take place sooner than later, God willing, especially the “joyful abandon” part! Blessings, love and hugs to you, sweet sister! xoxo ππ
