We know what we want and we want it now. Or preferably, yesterday, please? Wishing rarely gets us anywhere.
Consuming desires are fuel to a fire of impatience burning in our souls, a heat ray of longing.
A spark ignited each time we reflect on our perceived lack instead of being thankful for what we already have.
But when we draw aside from being eaten alive by greed rather than need, we find a different kind of craving taking over:
- An ache for a break in our circumstances
- A zest for rest
- A longing for less stress
- A heart hungry for love and acceptance
- A soul seeking solace

Prayer Whisper: ‘What I want for you’
“I want to rescue you. I want what is best for you.
To wrap you in arms of unconditional Love.
To hold you when you’re hurting.
My desires are for your highest good.
I long for you to know Me, really know Me intimately as Saviour, Lord and Friend.
I ache to restore all that is lost. I am an ardent chaser after your heart.
Come to Me, My child, and just be held.
Come to Me whenever you can.
Surrender the moments into My hands.
You are so precious to Me.
Let Me bind up your wounds, dry your tears and shelter you under My protective wings.
I am your refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
I want you to grasp that I am all you ever really need, and to rest in My welcoming embrace.
This world tilts you sideways but I enable you to walk straight and tall as a beloved daughter/son of the King of kings.
You will want for nothing in My presence.
Just trust in Me, in My faithfulness to provide for you.
Let Me pour Hope back into your weary soul.”

As a writer I want words to flow and the ability to share them. I’m relieved, grateful and happy to be doing both today in community with fellow five-minute-friday writers at Kate Motaung’s place as we tackle the prompt of ‘want’. You can read the great posts being shared and link up here.
And joining with friends Barbie and Carrie at ‘Let Us Walk Worthy’ as we speak out our growing faith stories to encourage one another here.
Rest in Him is something that has come up numerous times this week for me. Your words are so true. So glad I followed you on FMF.

Hi Debbie, thanks for stopping by. It’s good to meet you! Resting in God is so needful for our souls. I hope and pray you are able to receive all the rest you need, and become refuelled, refreshed and restored by the Lord. Bless you.

Your words are impacting me this morning. “He is all I will ever need.” Those are such powerful words and I so wish I could believe them to the very core of my being.

Gabriele, I think that the words, “He is all I will ever need” are ones we all wish we could believe “to the very core” of our being. Yet most days our fiercely independent souls tend to get the upper hand. As my faith journey has spanned a few decades and included many trials and tribulations, it has helped me to see how dependence on God is something to be cherished rather than avoided. I firmly believe God sees the deep desires of our hearts to draw closer to Him and He provides daily openings of grace for us to become more aware of and sensitive to His imminence. He will honour that longing in us as as we learn to trust in His provision for our every need. Praying for you, friend. May the joy of the Lord sustain you and be a calling card to enter into deeper awareness of His amazing love for you.

It is very easy to be caught up in thinking of what we want, but I love how you turned this round to think of all the things God wants for us. Beautiful promises and encouragements, especially when we have wants that are not being met. Continuing to pray for you and your husband.

Carly, the twist of turning this word round to “think of all the things God wants for us” came directly from the words God whispered in prayer. When I wait and write I have no idea what direction the word prompt will take me in. That’s part of the pleasure and pain of seeking to be inspired, isn’t it? Thank you so much for your continued prayers for me and my husband. They are bearing fruit because he has begun to turn the corner health-wise over the last few days and is now making good progress with his recovery. Bless you, friend! x

This is beautiful, Joy. This is so very true:
“But when we draw aside from being eaten alive by greed rather than need, we find a different kind of craving taking over:
An ache for a break in our circumstances
A zest for rest
A longing for less stress
A heart hungry for love and acceptance
A soul seeking solace”
Be still and know that I am God, He tells us…and that we are not…but in that truth rest those beautiful promises you end with. Thank you for encouraging us through your suffering.

Oh those words we so often ignore or wish God wasn’t speaking to us! How hard it can be sometimes to hear that we need to come aside, slow down, rest or be still. I know I need to heed them far more than I do. Anna, I’m so grateful that God gave me some words to share, and I am always heartened to hear how others are blessed by them. It’s a beautiful gift of grace, especially in trying times when creativity is stilled and we feel like we have nothing to say. May you be able to rest and be still inwardly if not outwardly, my friend. x

Thank you for this hope-filled post, Joy. This line especially speaks to me – “I ache to restore all that is lost. I am an ardent chaser after your heart.” I feel the pull of His aching heart chasing after us and pleading with us to open our hearts to His love and comfort. To just be held. I really need this reminder today. Thank you. Praying for more healing and strength for you and your husband. Hugs!

June, I feel very blessed to have been given some words to write at a time when they are more of a trickle than a flood! And it’s amazing how the prayer whisper is speaking to readers here in an individual way. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and prayers. They are truly appreciated. My husband isn’t quite ready to be discharged as yet but he is beginning to make good progress in that direction. All being well, the plan is for both of us to spend some time convalescing with our son and his wife before we need to try coping alone at home. The last week or so has taken its toll and it will be a few weeks before my beloved will be well enough to start taking up his normal household tasks. Input from family and church friends will help tide us over for a bit until he feels stronger. Thank you for caring and for faithfully showing up here even when I am failing to visit you. This remains a season of struggle but God is answering prayer and providing for our all our needs. x

Thank you Joy for these beautiful truths of what our Father God wants for us. I am touched so much today by this statement: “This world tilts you sideways but I enable you to walk straight and tall as a beloved daughter/son of the King of kings.” I am going to hold onto that thought this week! And, I am continuing to pray for both you and your husband during these trying times! –Blessings and Hugs to you!

Bettie, it is never God’s desire for us to cower, although the world will try to cut us down to size and leave us feeling small in every way. As beloved daughters of the King we have every reason to lift our heads high as we live for Him. May that thought help you to see how precious you are, my friend. Thank you so much for your continued prayers while my beloved is beginning to recover a little. These are still trying times and will no doubt remain so until he is stronger, but they have also been days of seeing God’s grace at work and receiving wonderful answers to prayer. Please forgive me for not being able to stop by your place like I used to. Daily life seems to be consuming all my energy, hence the delayed reply here. Blessings and hugs returned to you! x

Thanks for the reminder that we don’t have to fight what God wants, but surrender to it and realise His wants for us are so much better than our own.

Hi Kath. Thank you for visiting. It is often a hard lesson for us to learn but when we see that “we don’t have to fight what God wants, but surrender to it and realise His wants for us are so much better than our own” it is actually quite freeing. Oh, Linda, to hear that you found words that are just what you needed to read is such an encouragement and gift of grace to me at a time when words are few and far between and energy extremely low! I certainly see this in you: “I want Him and want God to be all that I want or need”, and feel reassured that such a great heart’s desire will be fully met by God’s goodness and grace. I am sorry to have missed your posts lately, as I have so many. Hope to catch up again once our life here gets less demanding. Bless you for all you contribute here. x
