Broken Image
Seeing a mirror image
flawed, imperfect
drowning in brokenness
where we see cracks
you see courage
where we see flaws
you see a flood of forgiveness
where we see holes
you see opportunities to fill
our woundedness
mirroring your own
as you took human flesh
our brokenness
like your body
pierced and torn
wearing our darkness
corruption within
and now we lift eyes
still hesitant to view
ourselves afresh in you
for you see
beauty in ashes
hope in despair
joy in grief
perseverance
through pain
and you bring
restoration
of all we have lost
broken lives
minds and bodies
can be healed
and made new
let love embrace
let grace repair
all broken places
we despair of
ever being mended
seeing in the glass
darkly here
until you lift the veil
reveal the glory
your light within
make us whole again
let us know that
renewal, hope
and healing is here
if we only look
away from ourselves
and up to you
the Mirror
of our wholeness

Hi JoyYour poem has stirred my heart deeply. I know we often feel that we will never ever have a new healthy body, but that is not true. Our Lord has made full provision for one day when we are with Him, we will have no more pain or exhaustion.Much love XXMia

It's hard to believe in the healing sometimes, isn't it? Thankfully, God has "made full provision" as you so rightly say, Mia. And we can look forward to the day when "we will have no more pain or exhaustion" because all sickness and suffering will be things of the past. Praise God!

Joy. I too was struck by the beauty of this poem. I was just thinking of this today in church as our pastor was talking about God filling in the gaps. And as I stood there slightly anxious, as I am at times, about my place in our church community, I thought 'I am made by you'. I thought 'I will always be enough, I am free to be myself, because 'all of me' was made by you and I am good enough for you, so I am good enough! Thank you for your words. I will check out some more of your wonderful writing.

Ana Lisa, it is hard to remember and believe, but God is teaching me that we are always enough because He is enough and our identity is found in Christ alone, not in our own self estimation. Though we have times of fragility, feeling less than able, being weary and worn out, God still loves us extravagantly and sees us as precious in His sight. Each part of the Body is vital and important. Your role is special and unique. We are all made stronger by the contribution and encouragement of our brothers and sisters in the faith.
